Word of Week - Woolgathering

Our word of the week is woolgathering.

Woolgathering centers on ones' indulgence in idle daydreaming. The origin of woolgathering reflects on the act of gathering loose tuft of wool from sheep that passed by fences or bushes. Since the practitioners of this enterprise tend to wander aimlessly in their gathering of wool, the term woolgathering began to appear in figurative phrases, such as “my wits went a woolgathering,” meaning that my mind went wandering aimlessly. Therefore, as students, you must avoid woolgathering in your studying routine. If you find yourself woolgathering, take short breaks to regain your focus on the material at hand so the time you spend studying becomes more productive.
