Hapless -- Word of the Week

Today's word of the week is Hapless. Hapless means to have no luck or unfortunate. As students of learning, one may feel hapless throughout their semester when course work becomes challenging or they don't score as well on a test or assignment as they had hoped. To avoid many hapless events in an educational journey, one should set academic goals and use campus resources such as the writing center or the LRC. Although some hapless times are bound to happen, it is important to pick back up and conquer your mission. As we are headed into a new semester, remember to remain focused and don’t become that hapless student.

Word of the Week - Efface

Our word of the week is Efface. Efface means to eliminate or make indistinct by wearing away a surface.

As a student of learning, one should efface issues that hinder their educational plan. Whether it is going to a tutoring session instead of the movies, one must focus continually with class assignments. You must efface issues that distract you from your educational responsibilities. Often times, a student becomes relaxed with his/her schedule, and he/her tends to attract outside distraction when studying. Remember, such distraction will lead to poor class performance.

So today, as you continue to reach your educational milestone efface any distraction that keeps you from attaining your goals.

Burgeon - Word of the Week

Our word of the week is Burgeon. Burgeon means to send forth new growth or to sprout. As students of learning, one should use this educational opportunity to burgeon. Attending professional development workshops, career expos, or enrolling in different leadership courses are all ways to burgeon in life. Often times, students get comfortable with their regular study habits, schedules, and routines that they forget to put forth the effort to burgeon or go the extra mile. So today, decide to burgeon and hit those educational milestones so you can get that tassel here, at Wallace Community College.

Afflatus - Word of the Week

Afflatus means a divine imparting of knowledge or power; inspiration. As students of learning, one must demonstrates afflatus. As students, we sometime forget that we too can become afflatus when dealing with others.  Whether it is staying late to tutor a classmate or just listening to a classmate, these actions are afflatus. Therefore, as students in today’s society it is often hard to demonstrate afflatus but we must know that our actions can have a significant impact on others. So as we continue to work hard and do our best, remember you are afflatus as a positive beacon.
