TRiO Word of Week - Mnemonic
Our TRIO word of the week is mnemonic. Mnemonic
means assisting or intended to assist memory or a technique of improving
memory. One can easily use mnemonic as a memory tool for
instance to learn the order of planets orbiting the Sun the mnemonic
device is to say My Very Easy Method Just Speed Up Naming Planets for Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
So when studying create your own mnemonic to enable you to
recall a list of things for upcoming tests. If the spelling of mnemonic strikes you as
particularly odd just remember, keep this mnemonic in mind: although the word's pronunciation begins
with an n sound, the
spelling begins with an m,
as in memory.

TRiO Word of the Week - Logomachy
Our TRIO Word of the week is logomachy. Logomachy means a dispute over words
or a controversy marked by verbiage. As you pursue your education endeavors,
become that warrior who engages in spirited logomachy. Yet, remember such
battles rest on the premise to "agree but disagree." Never take a dispute over a topic
personal, since words consist as a mean of expressing your opinion as you acknowledge the opinion
of others.
For instance, a thorough discussion on local politics is just logomachy so one should never lose friendship with the person who opposes your opinion.
